Yin Yoga is inspired by ancient Chinese Taoist practices and was brought to the western world by Paul Grilley in the 1970s. This yin yoga class consists of a series of long-held, passive poses that primarily work the lower part of the body—the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, and lower spine. These areas are particularly rich in connective tissue (that surround and hold organs, blood vessels, bones, nerve fibres and muscles in place). We will hold the postures for several minutes. During this time the muscles relax and we allow our breath and gravity to take us deeper. Yin Yoga also helps to nourish your emotional and mental health, relieving stress and anxiety.
